Here in the pacific northwest, we get spring about every 4th or 5th day. I happened to have had a day off on Saturday and managed to get a lot of yard work done at my home. We have a large piece of property and I have had a difficult time finding the energy to get it all done. My passions seem to go in different directions as I get older. In my youth, (30's and 40's) I had endless time and energy, or so it seemed... and everything needed to be perfect. Now I look at the weeds and wonder...do these flower? and if they do, maybe the color will be a nice addition to the other overgrown, lanky, wild growth of landscaping that I have. I am taking it all in stride and really looking forward to getting my garden MOJO back! I will post a few pictures of some before and after projects that I have around the house...
I have many new spring items in the shop and have been hunting and gathering the local estate sales and garages sales over the last couple of weeks. This Saturday the 21st is our antique faire here in Snohomish. I think the weather forecast is a good one, but I'm not holding my breath!

Our 3rd annual Snohomish Antique and Arts Faire is just a couple of weeks away. This year it will be held on Saturday May 21st. Snohomish is know as the "Antique Capital of the Northwest" and we have been working very hard to get the word out that Snohomish is coming back to her glory. Most of the once vacant store fronts are now filled with new shops and restaurants. The excitement of the new shop owners is contagious and we are all looking forward to a wonderful tourist season. We have a great lineup of vendors this year. Many of them are returning for their 3rd year and we are so thankful to them for being part of this ever-growing event. We have also expanded the variety of goodies to be sold. We have some wonderful handcrafted items, re purposed garden art, jewelry, yummy treats and of course a huge variety of vintage and antique treasures. I am optimistically predicting 70 degree weather this year...the last 2 years were perfect and I expect NOTHING LESS!!!

There is a Sun...There is no Sun!

This is exactly how people from the pacific northwest feel. We are giddy with joy when the sun comes out for ONE DAY!!!! Then, the next day it's back to October.. We really do love it when the sun is out. You would think we live in a cave or something. My husband and I went out for a lovely dinner on a local lake, and kids were out wading, dogs swimming after balls and everyone exposing their oh-so-lilly-white northwest legs.. it was great. It's only May 2nd and I am hopeful that May will bring more sunshine. We deserve it!
Dress up your plain lamp shade with some ribbon or old pieces of lace. It just breathes a little more life into it.

Faux flowers are sooooo easy to care for. I love fresh flowers but they are not practical for me here at the shop. I think craft shops like Michaels have great prices and if you pack enough of one kind of flower together, they look remarkably real.

I love this shade of green. I use it for my Christmas holiday decorations, but this spring in my house and shop I find this color really gives a great shock of spring.

Gather up some simple items that are just laying around and put them all together either in a basket, big bowl or something like this wonderful 5 foot basket shelf. Can you imagine it filled with fruits and vegetables and some lovely loaves of french bread!

I hope that this spring will be bright for us all. I am looking forward to all the garage sales and flea markets that this weather brings. Here in Snohomish we are excited to be holding our 3rd annual Antique and Arts Faire on Saturday May 21st. We close our main street here in town and welcome thousands of people for this one day event. Tents will be put up and tables set with so many great vintage treasures. We have a variety of hand made jewelry and local artists displaying their creations. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and say hello. I Know It's April But I Wrote This in March ....

So much has been happening since my last post. I know I keep promising to update and add pictures, but it just didn't happen.

Just a quick update since October. We had a wonderfully busy holiday season and which I was very grateful for. My husband and I managed to take a little vacation to sunny Palm Springs. We were enjoying ourselves until we both picked up a nasty flu virus that sent us to bed the last few days of our trip. The worst part of the flu, was the fact that this was a driving vacation and Palm Springs to home IS A VERY LONG DRIVE when you have a fever and cough. We must have looked like the couple from HELL as we drove up I-5. Anyway, we made it home, and didn't really start feeling better until a couple of weeks later...

I also have opened another shop here in Snohomish with a partner. Timi has been successful in her business promoting shopping trips to the Farm Chicks Show in Spokane Washington. http://www.blogger.com/www.thefarmchicks.com She also developed a great shopping event here in our area called Ruffles and Rust. There have been 2 shows so far and each one has been an event to remember...anyway she asked me if I would be interested in bringing a smaller version of that show to Snohomish. I didn't give it much thought, and in a matter of a couple of weeks, we decided to jump in!! OMG..another store, am I kidding?? Actually, it worked out pretty well and Timi will be working the shop hours most of the time. We opened on March 1st and it was a hit.
I will try to post a little more often and get pictures loaded. I have changed the look somewhat and not sure what it will look like the next time.

Ok. This one is under my belt and I will work on another post later, along with some more pictures.

Wow...I am so happy. My shop won for best antiques in western Washington....I can hardly believe it. I am very thankful to all my customers, friends and family who voted for the shop. This is one of those events that isn't about money or what you buy or have, but how people feel about you and what you've accomplished. I feel wonderful..I have worked very hard along with my friend Mary, and my husband Vern, to have the kind of store that I dreamed about as a little girl.. This was a good week for me and I thank you....
I hope you all got a chance to go the the Ruffles and Rust show that Timi produced...it was fabulous. I hear that a spring show is a possibility and I will want to be in that one FOR SURE...I don't know how all you gals, and guys do these shows 2 or 3 times a month....it is a lot of work. I think I would only be good for maybe 1 or 2 shows a YEAR!. All of the booths were amazing and the atmosphere was electric...I think Timi's got a good thing going on here...
Stay with me on this blog ..I will be attempting to keep it a little more current...

It's Time...

What a fabulous day we had...the weather was perfect, about 74 degrees, a little breeze in the afternoon and plenty of neighborhood garage sales. It's always exciting to be out treasure hunting, but then you have to load it, unload it, clean it, store it and sometimes wonder what the heck was I thinkin when I bought that!!! So many times I have purchased something only to get it home or to the shop and see that it's broken or repaired...it's my own fault though. Today I was pretty happy. I got home in time to do a couple things in the garage and I finally did a project that has been on my mind for some time..(get it?) I found a very large metal disc (46" diameter) this last summer and decided that it needed to be a clock. It's not a working clock but it is cool....It will either go to the shop or Timi's show Ruffles and Rust http://comejunkwithus.com/ in October. Mary and I are really looking forward to this show. I don't do many shows, but this is a must. I think it will be one of the best events of the year...We have tickets on sale at the shop for the bloggers ball on Friday the 22nd. This is a dress up gala, and I still don't have a thing to wear :). Ok, that's just a quick update for now. Please be sure to vote for our shop on http://best.king5.com/. Bring on The Fall !

\ This is such a super busy time of the year. I am always excited about the changing seasons, but this fall really kind of snuck up on all of us here in the Pacific northwest. Our summer started, as usual, around July 6th or 7th, but it ended in August this year...I barely remember it now....I do recall it being either 90 degrees or 65 degrees and raining...

Well, what do we do??? I, for one, am going to grab it by the horns and meet it full on..I will welcome the rain and gray skies with open arms and my feet covered in the cutest (leopard print) rain boots ever, from Joyworks !!! http://joyworks-shopgirl.blogspot Fall...I am ready for you....bring it on!!!!
Our industrial "section" is very popular. Don't be shy about adding a piece or 2 of something out of the ordinary...

Old farm stand signs and rusty baskets make you want to get inside and bake something!! In my case, I run down to Albertsons and get the frozen stuff...it still smells good!

Wine, fruit and fighting brass chickens...what says fall better than that :)

II NEVER said I was a gardner!!!!

I honestly started a post in August, but some darn customers walked in the shop...and that was it. I saved it and never went back. It's not unlike me to start something, leave it, forget it. In fact, I am sitting in my home office/studio/work-out room (not!), wondering when I started the process of organizing it. If this is September, than I think I started in June.....I really should be filing some of these papers or maybe trying the treadmill out to see if it still starts up, but no, I think I will try to get this little post done.....ahhhhh I feel like I've accomplished something already.

The summer went by so fast and pretty much uneventful. Vern and I managed to get up to the cabin a few times, but still, not as much as we would like. We started a huge back yard re-landscaping project, again in June, and still have quite a bit to do. I took 4 days off week before last to really hit the yard and "getter"done...I thought maybe Vern and I would enjoy each others company while digging and planting and digging and planting...but after digging and planting 65 Emerald greens and a variety of other shrubs and trees...I just about had enough of Vern...I love him, but when you start arguing about the size of the hole, if I got all the string off the root ball, I didn't put enough fertilizer in the hole, I need to water it more....you get the picture...we have put the back yard on hold until we like each other again.....I'll try to get some pictures from my phone, but don't hold your breath....

My friend Linda, who is doing wonderful after her heart surgery, and I went to the Clayson Farms show in Yakima a few weeks ago. We had a great little day trip. It was very, very crowded but we enjoyed all the great vendors and the great location. We stopped at the antique/fruit stands along the way home and just really had a fun day.

The shop was very busy all summer....lots of tourists in town this year and thanks to them and all the "regulars' we've had our best year ever.....Snohomish is coming back to it's glory, with almost all of the empty storefronts filling up. We are all very excited about the future of our little town.

Mary has spent the last 2 days bossing....I mean helping me re-arrange the shop for the up-coming season. She is so good for me....she gets me motivated and encourages me even when my ideas aren't flowing....We got a lot of work done the last couple of days...thanks Mary....

I also found out on Tuesday that our shop was nominated on the contest for the best of western Washington http://best.king5.com/ antique store. Thanks out there, who ever nominated us....it's been exciting...so help us out and go online to give us your vote.....

I forgot one of the most important things....Mark your calendar for October 22 and 23rd. This will probably be the best show of the entire season...Ruffles and Rust, presented by my good friend, Timi at http://comejunkwithus.com/

Please Sun, Come Back!!

What the heck is up with the weather...I think January was better than this. I want to wear my open toe shoes and Capri's and tank tops..(maybe not the tank top yet). I did a bad thing..I went to the tanning salon and I DIDN"T CARE...it felt great and it's the only way for me to get some quiet time. You can all tell me how bad it is for my skin and all that, but I DON'T CARE..I need warmth and a little color. Ok, that's off my chest.

I've managed to stay busy at the shop and we are getting all geared up for the antique and arts show on May 15th. Snohomish Faire.com Kimberly and Debbie CG have been working very hard on promoting this event. Snohomish received a grant and from that money, Snohomish will have some 15 second commercials that will start airing on May 13th.. the first one to promote our show. We are very excited and hope that it will attract a lot of attention.. They will be on early in the morning 5-7 am on channel 7 KIRO..After that, regular promo spots will air for Snohomish. I think we are heading in the right direction and have some good people working for the city and the historic district...It's all looking up!

My husband I managed to get up to the cabin last weekend. The weather was rotten so we did some inside chores. I stopped at poppyseedsshop.blogspot in Stanwood on Saturday. The shop looks good and their outdoor event was fun, even in the rain..

Other than that, same old, same old...work, blog, facebook, work, eat, sleep...what else is there to do in this crappy weather....Come on sun, we're waiting....

Greetings everyone!! Life has been as hectic as usual! Last weekend I celebrated my 5 year anniversary in Snohomish and had a great turnout. Many friends and customers stopped by and it was nice to thank them all personally for being so supportive these last 5 years. I am looking forward to another 5 years (I hope) in this wonderful little town...

My next big adventure will be the antique show http://www.blogger.com/www.snohomishfaire.com here in town on May 15th. We are hopeful that the weather will be as nice as last year...about 80 degrees! We are still looking for vendors, so if you know anyone interested in selling either vintage, antique or nice crafts...(no pipe cleaner ornaments..) have them give me a call or email and I will pass more info along. We are also looking for food vendors.

Just in the shop, old metal and wood boxes. They make the best tables.

Last week I attended another swap party at my friends Penny's house. It was such a great time. Penny's house is absolutely one of my favorite houses ever..it's just plain great. Jana, Joyworks, shopgirl.blogspot got the first pick of the treasures and I was number 2...Wouldn't you know that she picked the thing that I wanted!! and of course, all in fun, I called her a bitch and went on and picked out my treasure.. There were many good things brought to this party..Our next one I think is planned in July.

The absolute best thing that has happened though, is that my friend Linda will be coming home this week. Linda is a wonderful friend who had open heart surgery 5 weeks ago. Almost everything went wrong from day one. She had to struggle more than most of us could eve n imagine. Thank God, she came out of it alive and is so happy to be able to get on with her life. She is a true inspiration to me. Her husband and family were amazing...Welcome home Linda!

Not much is planned , except for our antique show. My oldest son wants us to meet him and his girlfriend in Palm Springs for a couple of days in June, but if you know my history...it probably won't happen:( It would be nice to get away for a few days. http://farmchicks.com/ is the coming up, but if I go to California, I won't be going to help Mary set up...I'll see. I am back to the shop after my mini-vacation. I did manage to bring some great new things in and I am looking forward to our Easter Parade on Saturday. I hope the weather gets a little better though. If you are in town, be sure to stop by and say hello. I just love Snohomish because of these little "small town" parades and events. It's how it should be. Along with the parade, there is a big Egg Hunt at Harvey Field and Chuck from Seafood Grotto has lined up all the SeaFaire Pirates and other special guests, so bring the kids and I'll have a few treats in the shop for them and mom and dad...

I am working on an online shopping page for those of you who would like to purchase treasures from the shop. It will take a little time to get it going, but I an excited to give it a try. If you have any questions on anything you see currently, send me an email. I have so many different things in the shop, I'm sure you'll find something you can't live without.

I also want to let you know that there is a new shop in town called Scrapville . I haven't been there yet, but I plan on stopping in. http://ScrapVille.net

End of Road Trip

It's Wednesday night and we are home already...We wondered around Wilamette Valley this morning and ended up in Silveton, where I was hoping to go to Aunti Joys, auntijoyblogspot.com,

but Joy was on her way to Arlington and was thinking about stopping in at my store...anyway, it was a beautiful drive but no treasures. We then headed to Salem and was disappointed there also. We thought of heading farther south, but the last 2 days were discouraging to me and I wanted to head home. I think I need to have a destination for a trip and we didn't have one. If I go to Alameda, I have a plan and know where I want to stop. It just didn't work out. I was hoping we would just wander to these great little shops and junk stores along the back hiway, but we didn't, so I sit here back in my office and I AM OK...We did stop in Kalama, Wa. on the way home and I bought a few really great pieces, so that made it worthwhile. We thought of going to the coast, but decided we may spend a couple days up at our cabin on Camano Island. Who knows what we'll do... I will be happy to get ready for our anniversary sale and Come Junk with Us promotion on April 17th. comejunkwithus.com. Thanks for checking in on my "BIG ADVENTURE.."

Day 2 Road Trip

Day 2 turned out to be a fun day. We slept OK, but are upgrading to a Best Western tonite. We are not in a drive-by, assault area!!! We started out the morning going to Monticello Mall. It was beautiful...I didn't find as much as I usually do, but managed to find some treasures. I bought a wire cage from http://A Thing For Roses , and just loved many of the other spaces. There are so many good sellers there. We spent a couple hours there and headed off to the Stars Malls in the Milwaukee district. Didn't find too much . Sellwood is not worth going to anymore. I hate to say that, but it's all cafe's and bookstores. Sorry Sellwood....The weather was fabulous on our drive south to Salem. We thought Aurora was worth a stop, so we pulled in and visited a few shops. They are nice stores, but way too primitive for my taste. We un-hooked the trailer and scouted out downtown Salem to see if it looks good. There are a couple of thrift shops and antique stores that may be promising..

On The Road..

Ok..we got a bit of a late start because my husband had a job that took a little more time than he thought. We didn't get out until about 12:30 and still had to pick up the trailer from Mary and Craig. We decided to stop in Centralia, since we were'nt going to make it to Monticello mall in time to enjoy shopping. I was a little disappointed in Centrailia, but knew many of the shops would not be open because it's Monday.. Catty Wampus was open and I always enjoy their store. I only found a couple of items there and nothing at the other 2 or 3 shops that were open. Still fun though...Since I had only eaten hot tamales on the drive down, we headed over to Harold's. This is a must stop for burgers and fries if you are in the area. It's an old style drive in joint that must look like it did in the 50's. The burger fries and onion rings were super. Mary and I love this place. We even got my friend Dani, (Miss Health food queen) to eat a burger and fries on one visit. Here's Eddie right on the console. He loves road trips too.

We made it to Portland, close to the Monticello Mall. Since we don't know which way we are coming home, I didn't want to miss it. It really is a great store and it inspires me....

As I mentioned in the last post, we are staying at a swanky Motel 6.. after you get use to the smell, its not so bad. Eddie doesn't mind too much because he figures tons of his relatives have left their mark before him...P.U.....Oh well it's only one night and I'd rather save the money to buy some cool stuff.

Ok, I'll take more pictures tomorrow. We're starting off at Monticello and then????

Change of Plans

Well, all kind of things hit the fan about the road trip to Palm Springs. Because of numerous things, we will not be going all the way to the desert..We will hit the road, heading south, maybe along the coast down to northern Calif. then back up the east side of Oregon, not sure, I just know that we're going somewhere. The best part about being disappointed is that something new has come out of it. My husband is taking me just to shop for the store..(that scares me...he must want something !!!) anyway, I'm OK with shopping , its the thing I love most, I never get tired of it, I love it....It's not quite as relaxing as going shopping with Mary, she doesn't road rage on me and is a great navigator...
So...my plan is to take pictures of my big adventure and post them every evening from some swanky motel 6 along the hiway. We don't drive in the dark anymore, so that gives me plenty of time to load pictures and write a few words..If any of you have suggestions of where I should stop, send me a comment. I think we will start at the Montecello mall in Portland. It's one of my favorite places to shop.
Mary, Linda, Tamara and Loura will be holding down the fort in Snohomish. Mary is the boss while I'm gone....she's numero uno, number one for any questions.

It has been 5 years now since I opened my store in Snohomish. My original location was in the log house, where I was for 3 years..then 1 year up the block and 1 year here...I can't believe it. Time has flown by in so many ways...Thank you all for making it possible to stay in business, especially these last couple of years.

Timi had her show, The Collection, this last weekend in Bothell and OMG....I hope you had a chance to attend. It was so great..The turnout was tremendous and I am so happy for Timi. She works so hard on everything she does. Her next big event is the bus to Farm Chicks, so check out at http://www.comejunkwithus.com/.

Another Year Older

Yesterday was my birthday and I am happy to say that it was one of my best birthdays ever.. It was an "All about Annie Day " and who doesn't like a day like that. It started out with greetings from my husband and youngest son, then a phone call from my aunt in Germany. Once at work, I started getting phone calls and presents, pretty much the rest of the day. It was so fun.. I got a great ruffly tank top from Mary, a gift card from Linda and Tamara to Kohls, a beautiful rhinestone frame from Loura, a big letter A covered in moss from Trisha, a cinnamon roll the size of a dinner plate, which by the way, I managed to eat all on my own...lets see what else..a cool beaded necklace from my buddy Dani, flowers and cards...fun, fun, fun. My friends from my old office to sing happy birthday to me. Today extended my birthday joy with Timi bringing in 2 cupcakes, tulips and a large bag of individual snack packs of chips!! How funny..I think that was it, along with tons of greetings from other friends and customers. Thanks everyone for making 55 not seem THAT bad. Boy, it sure snuck up on me though. I am trying to convince myself that getting older is OK, but it's a hard sell!!!

Timi and Amber http://www.tresbirdsphotography.com/ were at the store on Sunday afternoon to take pictures for Timi's show, and Trisha , Wildwhimseyblogspot.com created quite a commotion in her frilly skirt and sunglasses.. Man did she play the part.. it was great fun. We are starting to work on our antique fair on May 15th. http://www.snohomishfaire.com/. Nothing Says Las Vegas Like A Deep Fried Twinkie..

My oldest son Brent and his girlfriend Kim Here are a few photos from our Las Vegas trip. We had a great time and the weather

was perfect. I think I am over the Vegas thing though...I'm not a gambler, late night partier and my feet hurt with that much walking. Old, aren't I!!!..

We stayed at the Encore, which was fabulous..The stores in the casinos are fun to look at but way too expensive. Cartier watches, Chanel, Gucci, bla, bla, bla...I love my TJ Maxx and Macy's shopping trips much better. I did spluge and buy a pair of Coach sneekers...

Most of the black jack tables were 10-15 dollar bets and I just couldn't do it, so we went to old Las Vegas and I didn't like it there too much either...It was old and run down looking but I did manage to find a stand that sold deep fried twinkies...I was really looking forward to it after seeing them on the food network...it wasn't that great...really greasy , but the anticipation was worth it.

You can't tell from this picture, but the wall is covered in a hounds tooth fabric. It was very cool. The walls in the elevator landings were covered in faux snake or crocodile vinyl. I am looking for a wall in my house to do.

Greetings to all... I hope you are enjoying our beautiful January. I had a pretty busy week last week. The trade show was in Seattle and it is always so much fun...I made a couple of orders for "new " stuff that I am really excited about. I have picked up the Aidan Gray line. It is very high end for me, but it's great stuff. My first order will be arriving in March and April , and I will have a catalog for special orders. I have some great new jewelry that is really fun. It's big and chunky with lots of bling. Good things coming in.
I am finally going on a little vacation in February. We are taking our sons and their wife/girlfriend to Las Vegas. This was their Christmas gift. We are staying at the Encore and I can hardly wait....We will be gone for 3 days, which is plenty of time is Sin City. I am not a gambler, but I do enjoy the cabaret shows , people watching and going out for meals...We'll be home a few weeks and then on the road to Palm Springs. (I hope!) That will be in mid March and we'll be gone for about 2 weeks. I plan on doing some junking on the way down. Hopefully I will hit a couple of the great antique shows that are in southern California. This is all going to happen, as long as my husband agrees to stop..

These are folk art pieces from around the 1930's and 40's. I collected them for years and called them my little men .

The industrial section in the front of the store has been very popular. The pics aren't great, but the stuff is. I have lots of metal cabinets, tables, some great industrial lighting that I didn't get a picture of. I'll add that to the next post.

No, wait, here's one of the fixtures. It hangs down about 3 feet on a metal pole. It's from an elementary school in Everett.

Starting Now!!

Ok, I said once a month... and in fact, I am a little early. How bout that??? I hope everyone had a great Holiday season...It was very busy at the store and I am grateful for such a good year after the doom and gloom of last year!! People were out shopping and enjoying themselves, it felt great.
This was my family's first holiday season without our mom...(my mother in law) I think Thanksgiving was the hardest because it was her favorite holiday. I had dinner at my house and to remember her, I set my table with some dinner ware that she and her mother have collected for years. Everyone thought it looked great and we could almost see her at the head of the table...
I finally got the store put back together with the help of Mary. We have some new inventory, but wow!!! did we sell a lot of stuff... I have a new industrial section in one of the windows and it has been pretty popular. It's a different look, but fun...metal, steel, rusty crap, shutters, fun, fun, fun...
I resumed painting my house...started in September, and hope to have it done by summer. No pressure on myself this year, it doesn't work anyway.. I would like to have it done though.
I am hosting a swap party in February for a few of my friends . If you haven't heard of these ,it is great fun.. Timi hosted the first one, Dani the second. The whole idea of the party is to exchange stuff.. something you have that you don't need or want anymore. It doesn't mean junk or stuff in the "I was just ready to give it to Goodwill" stuff, it should be good stuff!! Your party could be any theme though..a dollar store party or cooking or sewing, whatever you and your friends are into..(in Shell's case, it would be glitter!!) I am looking forward to just getting together with the gals, it really is fun.
I will take some pictures this week and post them the next time around..The store is still not looking up to snuff...

I have re-considered giving up on my blogging, due to the over -whelming response I have received. (3 out of 4 ! ) Anyway, many friends and customers have come by and said they enjoy reading my periodicals....I will try to do it a least once a month. Patty....you must keep up with me... It is fun to check out and see if anyone has written and I do really appreciate the comments. In the mean time, everything has been good...my store has done the best business ever and I thank all my friends and customers for that...I am looking forward to some shopping trips out of town and getting the store ready for the spring season. I wish you all health and happiness and friendship in 2010...

Junk Bus to Fun!!

What a fun day we had. Timi from http://comejunkwithus.blogspot really out-did herself. We were all treated like special guests. Timi does have a way with making you feel good. Everything was just done well, from the crown name tags, to the lunch, to all the give-aways and prizes to the bus ride home.
The Funky Junk show was good. There were many familiar faces and some very wonderful booths. I did manage to spend a little cash and truly enjoyed a leisurely shopping adventure. Usually when Mary and I go shopping, we are on a mission!!! We see, we buy, we move on to the next location...so Saturday was more laid back than I am use to. We arrived in Sumner at about 12:30 and it was just a glorious sunny day. It was fun to wander through all the stores and enjoy that one in a million fall days...Most of the stores in Sumner had some kind of special for the junk bus ladies. I did manage to find a couple of Christmas gifts...yeah!!!!
Shelley from Snohomish, http://shellinsnohomishblogspot, survived her virgin junking adventure. Can you believe it? She has never gone to a show like Funky Junk . Her life is now nearly complete. It was very fun to see how excited she was. My friend Cathy had a good time, but she didn't travel well on the bus in the morning. She also got some Christmas gifts and a couple things for herself...Mary was there, Dani, Amber from http://tresbirdsblogspot was there with her camera, (great pics Amber) and many more gals I've met through Timi and my shop. It really was a fun day and I am glad that I went.
If any of you out there want to try something like this, check out Timi's next trip, which is planned for Dec. 5th to County Village, Cranberry Cottage, Mill Creek Town Center and ending up in Snohomish. Other trips are planned for next summer to Farm Chicks in Spokane and probably the Barn House show.. Call your girlfriends, it's fun.

Too Wet to Pooh!

Wow! I thought I was going to have to launch a boat this morning! We all new it was coming, but its hard to give up the weather that we've enjoyed for months. October is one of my favorite months. I love the feeling of getting the house all cozy and buckled up for the winter. I can't wait to light a fire in the fireplace and get all my winter blankets out. I just wish that we could have October with rain only on Mondays and maybe Tuesdays. No one does anything on those days anyway.. The worst part about all this rain is HAIR! I have really bad hair in this weather and I look even worse in a hat. This morning was a pretty good hair day so I refused to take Eddie out for his a.m. duty.. He didn't want to go out either, can you blame him!! I made Vern stand out in our back patio (with umbrella) and I stood in the doorway and commanded Eddie to poop! He refused... he didn't want anything to do with going pottie and no one was going to make him..He dashed back inside as happy as a clam... He was soaking wet and smelled like dog, funny how that works.. The End :)

Here's a great vintage bird condo. I found this at a flea market this last summer..Speaking of condos, my husband and I are still thinking of going to Palm Springs in March and are on the look-out for condo rentals. If anyone has any info, please let me know. We weren't able to go anywhere this year, so I am planning on getting out of Dodge for the whole month of March...

I have been practicing with my camera. All these pictures are from the store. It's is nice and full thanks to Mary and me cleaning out my back room and my garage at home. I was able to get to a shelf in the garage and I found some really great stuff on it. We tend to hoard during the summer months but my hoarding has turned into a few years and it has to get out and on the shelves. There is a great selection of unusual items.

My oldest son and his girlfriend just got back from Paris. They thought that if they rented a car, they would get around easier. They were wrong.. It was very stressful driving in a foreign country and he said they would never rent another car in Europe. Train travel is the way to go.

My friend Cathy and I are starting to plan a trip to Paris for next August. She just had a heart attack 3 weeks ago that was brought on by stress. She is doing ok and will have some tests done next week. It sure makes me realize how special friends are and how we have to appreciate our health and take better care or ourselves.

Well, we didn't get to go on our road trip to Minnesota. My husband has been having some inner

ear problems and he just didn't feel like being in the car for that many days. I was very disappointed, but it would not have been a very pleasant trip. We are still planning on going to Palm Springs in March, so I have that to look forward to.

Let me apologize for the jumble of pictures. I don't know what happened, but I'm not redoing it.
A lot has been going on in the mean time...My kitchen is almost complete...just a few more details and voila! I'm out of the 80's.. More pictures when complete..
I've been trying to read other blogs and trying to keep up with all the goings on. I heard that Timi's bus trip to The Barn House was a blast. Her next adventure is to Puyallup and the Funky Junk Sisters show. They will also be stopping in Sumner where by the way, is the cutest little stamping shop. Ok, It's Wednesday night, I have been working on this really bad post since Monday, and it's almost bed time for this 50 something shop keeper. How sad is that...but I really do need to stop at 9:00. Here's a couple more shots of the kitchen, with Vern and our friend Dan placing the first tiles..
They are actually trying to see if they can cheat by not having to cut the tiles....instead they want to put a piece of molding to cover the gap...Nope, we are going to do it the right way... After all was done, it turned out very nice. Vern is not doing any more home projects for now. I got all I could out of him..:)
I'll post other pictures when I get completely done.

The new collection of the Sid Dickens tiles are in...and out and in... They are gorgeous. The next shipment will be here by the first week of October. The beautiful candle is a new line of battery operated candles created by Debbie from Queen Bee. I have a great selection in the store and they are priced at 49.95 each. These candles are all made here in Snohomish along with some lovely plaques with a variety of French inspired designs. This Sid Dickens tile is titled, Purity.

Nothing says fall like your own stuffed duck. He is very cool. I see a lot of pheasants, quail, etc..but not too many ducks. A Pheasant sits just above him and is equally handsome.
The dining room set is a vintage piece that has been beautifully painted by Mary and Craig with an oil base paint. It has a great finish. Mary also upholstered the seat cushions.

It's Cozy Time!

Good morning! It's seven a.m. Sunday morning, I'm sittin in my robe, listening to the rain and it sounds good. That's the sign of a real Pacific nw dweller. I love the fall and the feeling it brings. I just hope that it doesn't start hard and heavy quite yet....
I have been very busy the last couple weeks. After we got the gazebo out of the store, it took DAYS to put the store back together. During that time my husband and I drove out to Granite Falls , Priceless Granite, to look at some granite for our kitchen counters, (I had faux granite Formica). We have been remodeling our house of 25 years lately. Anyway, we walk into the showroom and someone says, hi Annie! and I'm thinking who knows me here. Well, it turned out to be a patient from the dentist office I worked at. Her name is Connie and she was so nice, she showed us all around the facility and walked us through the slab yard.. We found some granite we liked and they were able to schedule us the following week for installation! We weren't quite that ready, but what the heck . After changing our minds on the pattern, we choose one called Uba Tuba, I got the cupboards cleaned out, which were by the way, not that bad, it surprised me that I didn't have more crap shoved in them. They were installed in less than 1 day, including a new sink and faucet. They were great, very professional, neat and clean work and very nice young men. I would recommend Priceless Granite to anyone who is looking..http://www.pricelessgranite.com. Vern and I got the sink hooked up and the cooktop back in place. The next thing is the backspash. We are waiting for a sample of a indoor use stack stone. We may even try to install it ourselves. I also need to paint the entire house, but that's what rainy days are for, right?
We were going to be leaving for our road trip to Minnesota tomorrow, but Vern is still not feeling very well. He has some inner-ear virus and it is causing him to feel dizzy. So...we're cancelling that trip. Maybe next year.

Also, I got the new collection of the Sid Dickens tiles in.. Wow, are they gorgeous! I already have to re-order a couple of the styles. They are created by Debbie (Queen Bee owner) and artist extraordinaire. They are a battery operated candle, you know those little glow lite ones. These are extra special. I will be getting them in the store hopefully this week. Wait until you see them.
Lots of stuff in the store, thank goodness because we have been very busy. Mary is out there shopping her little butt off and keeping me motivated. She can be a tad bitchy with me, but she knows I need it to get my stuff out of the back onto the floor. Love her.....
Also on the 12th is Cindy's, Haley's Cottage ,antique market in Mill Creek. It's a one day show and I have heard some good dealers are going to be out there.

Lazy Days of Summer!

I just love August. It's a month where you can really just sit down and relax. The yard is pretty much dead, the annuals are on their last hurrah and you can daydream about that great day in September when the kids go back to school. I always thought that day should have been an national holiday!

Vern and I are planning a little road trip to a vacation hot spot. Minnesota...I don't even know what town.. We have friends that built a huge log home on a lake there about 4 years ago, and they have been at us to come and see them..We love to go for long drives, so what the heck.. I haven't work out the store schedule yet, but Mary said she would fill a couple days..If any of you know any "must see" places between here and Fargo North Dakota, let me know. I would like to pull a little trailer with us, but I'm not sure Vern will go for that idea.

My friend Timi has got another adventure up her sleeve! This time it is a day bus trip to the Barn House show in Battle Ground, Wa...It sounds like a great trip..Timi is very fun oriented and I am sure it will be one of the adventures of the season..For all the info go to, http://http://www.comejunkwithus.com/.

We had a great time at Hot Blogust Night! The turnout was super and both Timi and I were are thankful for all you gals that came to town to help us kick off this first blog part! It never hurts to have a writer for a magazine win a prize in your store!! I am hoping that we get a little mention of our party in one of her upcoming articles. It was nice to meet her.

It is a gorgeous floral bouquet and I will love it in my yard. I hope we have a few more of these parties. It's another good excuse to get together, have a glass of wine and gossip.. There isn't much things in life that are better.

We're on the countdown to Saturday! As usual, I put everything off until the last minute. Thank God, Timi is working on this with me. She packs a pot-load of energy and enthusiasm! Here's to You Miles!!

A friend of mine and Snohomishs' passed away on Sunday. Miles, (Faded Glory),was diagnosed with lymphoma just in May and went steadily down hill. He was in 2 rehab homes and never did make it back to his favorite little town. He was a landmark here. If anyone had questions about an antique piece of furniture or architecture, he was the go to guy. He had a great love of fine things, even though he lived very modestly. I will miss his famous silver hair and his daily visits to see if I had any room for more crap to sell....Where ever you are Miles...thank you!

Hope you are all surviving the heat wave... It's too hot.. I hate to say that because we all know that in a few short months, we will be bitching about the rain and gray skies. I guess we can't have it all.

Today I met a nice gal from Yakima. Her name is Linette and her store is called Garden Girl. She doesn't blog, or have a website and it sounds like she doesn't miss either. Not enough time. Her address is 25 North Front Street Shop #2.. isn't that cute, shop # 2...her email is mailto:wgardengrl@charter.net Anyway, she was in the store 3 times in about 1 hour, had lunch at Chuck's, where she listened to the staff argue about their tips, came back to the store to load up her goods and off she went back to Yakima. I hope to stop and see her on my next trip there. Be sure to check out her store, it sounds like a place I would like to visit.

Million Dollar View!

I told you this was heaven on earth....This is the view from our little cabin on Camano Island. We look across Saratoga Passage to Langley, Whidbey Island. Every time we go up there, we fall in love with it even more. I never get tired of the view!

These pictures were taken last weekend and I will be heading up there tomorrow for some more R&R. The store has been very busy, thank God, and I need a little rest. I will take some pictures of the inside of the house this weekend. We "de-cheesed" the cabin this summer. I had been collecting beach theme decor for the last 9 years and Vern and I decided that we needed to get some of the crap of the walls and off the floor. The cabin is only 525 sq. feet, so we were feeling closed in. It looks much bigger with some of the stuff gone. I put a lot of my ferry boats, (hand made) at the store and have sold many pieces. I was sorry to see them go, but I am also ready to move on to something different.

Eddies' also getting some R&R with appetizers and fine ale. If you are coming to our Hot Blogust Night event, you can look forward to treats like this...um,um good!

Mary and Linda at Portland taking a little rest. I always enjoy going to Portland for the summer show, but I have to say, that I was a little disappointed this year. I thought the prices were higher and maybe because I'm older and I get tired...I don't know. It wasn't as good as I was hoping. Mary and I always mangage to have fun and did some greate shopping at Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls... great stuff cheap.

Red Hat Beauties from Camano Island. They call themselves the Camano Tomatoes and I can see why. These gals are good lookin inside and out. They really enjoy themselves on their outings. All you Red Hat ladies, if you come to Snohomish, give me a shout a couple days before hand and I will throw some of the above mentioned treats together for you!!

Mark your calendar for Saturday August 8th. Hot Blogust Night. We can hardly wait. Get your girlfriends together for a fun evening. Many of the stores in town will be open until 8:00 just for you. Some will have special discounts just for that night. I know that Beat Street will have 10% off merchandise between 5 and 8:00. Curly Willow opens in Snohomish!

Yeah! Tomorrow is a big day for my friend Susan. She will be opening her new store, Curly Willow, at 10:00.. I am so happy for her. Susan is a very talented lady. She sold her goods at my store on 2nd Street. She has worked in the antique business for years and her displays are as good as it gets... I got a sneak peek at the store yesterday and let me tell you, it is a little jewel box...it looks lovely... if you are in town, you have to stop by and see her..Susan is having a drawing for a 50.00 gift certificate. You can sign up for it my store or naturally in hers. Good luck Susan!!!!! Snohomish is happy to have you here!

Our special event, Hot Blogust Night, will be on Saturday August 8th. It's basically a blog party..

All you gals that have blogs or just read blogs are invited. We want you to meet each other. I am always so excited when someone comes into the store and they say that they read my occasional blog. Quite a few of the stores in town will be open late just for us. I will list them all when I know for sure...We will have some appetizers and desserts, cheap wine, and tons of fun. We would like you to bring your special art piece, or whatever you are famous for, to display either in my shop or one of the others, (I haven't figured all that out yet.) We need you to create your own I.D. button to wear throughout the evening. Put your blogspot or logo on it, so we can all see who you are... make it fancy, funky, gaudy, tacky...whatever you want... I think we will have fun.. Let your friends know about the party. I know there are some gals from Oregon coming.. they invited themselves to stay at Timi's...how funny. Welcome Back to Blogland Annie

I doubt that any of you remember me saying that I'm not good at computer stuff, but I am sure that it is now obvious to you that I don't spend a lot time on my blog. Sorry...I think about it, but I'm short on action.
So much has happened since we did The Farm Chicks Show, which by the way is an experience.

I haven't been reading anyone else's blogs, but I'm sure they all just gush with high praise. It really was something. I was overwhelmed with the quality and quantity of stuff....

The show was very well done and all went smoothly, except naturally for putting the space together and taking it down.. Man what a lot of work. I will never take a gazebo with me anywhere, anytime soon. It was the gazebo from hell. The one in the store went together with barley a hitch, but not this one. My husband, (who wasn't my best friend that weekend,) would have thrown that thing out the door. I have never seen a man hammer anything so hard. We did get it all together but we broke it a little.

Our space looked good, but it didn't turn out the way I saw it in my head. Mary and I are a great team and seem to be OK with whatever things turn out to be. We had fabulous sales and lots of good feedback since then.

The entire show was just the most fun. I enjoyed my time with Mary and meeting all the other dealers I've met over the years, BUT......

It was way too much work for me. Having a storefront like I do, makes the work harder. It was great fun and I will go again, but probably not to sell.. I would help Mary over the weekend and do some more shopping.. We didn't get out much because it was so busy. I think every girl (and some guys) should call their friends and make a weekend out of it.

It's Been a While.....

Hello all!!
It's been so long since I've posted to my blog. I am not very good at it I guess. Life has a way of keeping me occupied!
I am getting ready for the holidays with all the other stores and boy, is it a lot of work... It's hard for me to get all this stuff out before Thanksgiving, but that's retail...
The store looks pretty good, but I won't be doing the finishing touches until after Thanksgiving. I've added a couple of pictures and will try to throw in some decorating tips that are inexpensive and festive. For instance, if you are looking to add holiday touches outside, fill your containers and pots that remain outdoors with cedar branches. I gather mine after we have windy days. Cedar lasts for ever if it is stuck in the pot with wet dirt. And fill'r up full..... don't skimp. You can attach a big ribbon with your color scheme to the pot and it will look fabulous.
I have a fire place , but we don't use it that much any more, so during Christmas I fill a big old tin bucket with water and just pack it with cedar . It fills the whole opening and it smells like Christmas.
I also invest some money in paper whites... Lowes has really good prices and the smell is heavenly. I try to get them in clay pots and I use and old saucer to catch the water and protect surfaces. I have a collection of vintage glass ornaments and I put some of the smaller ones right at the base of the plant so you just don't see dirt.. Use what you have and don't be afraid to go over the top... its fun!
I haven't been out shopping much this fall...I have spent a lot of time with my mother in law, who is hanging in there. We have had some problems at our home with a leaking roof . I will be redoing our guest bedroom because of this and before that happened, I started tearing my 1984 main bathroom apart. My God, I still have the original dusty rose Formica counter top.. the impressive golden oak cabinet, linoleum floor and the shiny bright globe light that was the rage in the 80's... Oh, I forgot the wallpaper, 2 layers , I forgot about the first layer. I have gouged the walls and don't quite no what to do with them. I should keep a picture diary and let you see the before and after. At the rate I'm going, I'm lookin at April..........
But first is Thanksgiving and we all need to be thankful for our loved ones, our health and our homes. Everything else is just stuff....
Come to Snohomish and check out all the great stores. The town is open until 8:00 the Friday after Thanksgiving and I will be having a 20% off most everything sale. Come and see us, the town looks like a postcard at Christmas.

Fall is in the Air...

Doesn't it feel good outside!!! I love the summer, but the fall season makes me want to hunker down in my house, start a warm fire and do homey stuff. I have been able to do a little more nesting in my own home since I am down to one store.
Lots of things going on in Snohomish during the fall. Saturday October 25th is the Pumpkin Festival here in town. Lots to do with your family. Also try to visit the maze on Hiway 9 and Craven Farms. Also, if you are shopping in Snohomish this Friday, a portion of proceeds from many of the stores will go to the High School. This weekend the Craft and Antique show is happening in Lynden, Wa. at the fairgrounds. I have never been, but have heard that it is very fun and has a great variety and crafts and vintage treasures. It's the 16th through the 18th with a $4.oo admission.
My friends from Tres' V got back from Alameda a couple of weeks ago, and Tina described it as the trip from Hell!!! I was sure that I would be hearing a wonderful story about how much money they made and how much stuff they got to buy, but just the opposite. They weren't very successful in the selling department, so in turn they didn't have room in the trailer to bring new things back. They said that all the dealers were somewhat disappointed in this show, and that people were very cautious about spending money..... Same here.. On their way home, their SUV broke down, they had to get it towed, rent a car, have the SUV repaired in central Oregon and now they have to drive 6 hours to go and get their car.. Wow, it kinda sounds made up doesn't it? Tina had to laugh though, because it was so bad that it was funny...I hope they will give it another try, maybe when the economy turns around.....
I've got some new pictures from a gal that came in the store. She is a photographer and took some very nice pictures. (I'll add her blog to my favorites) And if you forgot that I have the cutest dog in the world (Eddie), I will add a picture that Didi took just to convince you!!!!!!!

I am working towards getting all ready for the Holidays, at home and the store. I will be doing a look that is elegant and filled with lots of greenery and sparkle and warmth. I like my home to be welcoming and inviting without overpowering everyone with Christmas stuff. I try to keep it simple and I hope you will come by and get some ideas on how to decorate your own home with style and with ease on your wallet....

I'm Finally Moved In!

Outside of a couple of things to finish up at the Log house store, I am moved in at First Street. It took a lot of work and with the help of my husband and a few relatives, Linda and my buddy Mary, I don't think I could have got it done so fast. The store looks pretty good with much more inventory. The whole little town of Snohomish is looking so good!. The new stores look great and a lot of people are taking a second look at our town. Our downtown historic district is run by a lady named Dena Marie and she is one of the hardest working gals in town! She is always working on a plan to promote Snohomish and with a variety of activities that will be sure to please all members of your family. Thanks Dena Marie!
I am posting a few pictures that a teacher in photography at Shoreline took for one of his classes. He was nice enough to send me a CD of the photos. I think they turned out pretty good.
My mother in law is doing as well as can be expected. She is a very strong lady.
I don't have any California trips scheduled this year, but my friends from Tres' V, here in town are going this Friday to try their hand at selling (and buying. ) I wish I was going with them. If you ever get a chance to go to the Alameda antique show, don't pass it up. It is wonderful..... Mary and I are planning on going to the Portland Antique show at the end of the month as long as everything goes as planned. That's also a fun show, but this one is not as big as the summer show.

Three Days and Counting....

Well, my last day here at 2nd street is just around the corner. I have had such a good time over the last 3 1/2 years! I have made tons of new friends and enjoyed every day that I spent here. I am excited to get down to just one store though. It has been a long 6 months and I am anxious for my life to be a little more normal. I have tons to do still, just as I predicted...I have been selling a lot of my display things and giving away some projects that I know I will not get to. Today I will be weeding some more things out and putting them in the free pile. 3 years doesn't seem like a real long time, but my God!!! how did all that stuff get in the drawers? Where does all this stuff come from and why didn't I sort things out as I went. You know why? because we love stuff and we're all sure that, that stuff is going to come in handy one day. You know, the roll of duct tape that probably only has 6 inches left on it, the rusty hinge that would look cool on an old door, those goofy screws that you don't have the right screw driver for.... You know what I mean, we all have it....The last day is Saturday, so if you are in the area stop by, you never know what might show up in the free pile.
My mother in law, Eloise is feeling a bit better. She is taking some new meds that are helping her . She is eating better sleeping a little better. Eloise has decided that she wants to go and see her mom in California. Her mom, bless her little heart, is 97 years old. Anyway, Eloise is going to take my husband and sister in law with her for a 4 day visit. That will make her mom very happy. Please remember to tell your mom that you love her. We should never wait to tell our loved ones what they mean to us. Life is short, so make it good....

11 Days and Counting!

Well, I'm down to the last 11 days at the log house store on 2nd. I still have a lot to do as far as getting things boxed up, but who needs 11 stinking days for that!!!! Knowing me, I will probably wait until 2 or 3 days to go and do it all in a furry!!!!!! We still have alot of things on sale. A lot of mine and Mary's things are 30% off and my friend Dani is doing 50% off. I will be posting some of my display things on Craig's list hopefully by the end of the week.
I forgot to blog last week because I had been asked to have a wedding in my back yard and I had all of 5 days to prepare for it. No problem....my niece Kaily and her boyfriend of 3 years are having a baby and wanted to get married,, yeah!!! but they didn't want to make a big deal out of it and since my mother in law is ill, they wanted it close by so that she could attend. Eloise only lives about 1/2 mile from us. So Diane and I did all the work, I got some help to clean up the back yard, had the windows cleaned and the house, oh my God, hasn't been this clean since last Christmas! Diane, my sister in law, ordered flowers from the gal who sells cut flowers by the railroad track, I had some pillars at the store that we put sparkly letters in their name topped them off with ferns and we had a beautiful wedding backdrop. We beat the rain by about 20 minutes and pulled it off like we do it all the time... Sometimes things like that turn out so good because you don't have the time to mull things over, you just decide to do it. Kaily looked beautiful and they were very thankful.. Diane and Phil gave Vern and I a gift card for Emory's on Silver Lake and hopefully we will get the time to go and enjoy it!!...... Anyway, that's the current update...

Shop Till You're Hot!!

Whew!!! It was a hot one!! We survived and thrived at our Porch and Parking lot sale. We had the biggest turnout ever!! For a change, we had super weather. Over the last couple of years we have been rained on and this year we were blessed with Mr. Sunny.. I was inside of the store most of the day, but I enjoyed peaking out of the door to watch my friends sweat!! The girls outside were very happy with their sales and loved meeting some of the great people that have become the greatest customers ever!! This was officially the last P&P sale, but so many people have suggested having it at another area.....we will see what next year brings. I want to thank all the gals for showing up with their great treasures and making the day so successful. The log house store will be closing September 15th. Please come and see me at Annie's on First and I promise (this is an election year right...) to keep supplying the store with great stuff. Lots of new items coming for the fall and winter season and look for changes in the store since I will be moving all the operations down there. Lots of work ahead of me and I am so excited!!!

Porch and Parking Lot Sale

If you are in Snohomish this Saturday the 23rd, be sure to come by Annie's at 1010 2nd Street. This is my biggest sale of the year and with mixed emotions, my last one. I will be closing the 2nd Steet location September 15th to concentrate on the First Street store. I have really enjoyed the store on 2nd Street, but from a business aspect, it is time to move on...

My mother in law is battling stomach cancer and I really want to free up some time so that I can help my family with her care and also just to be able to spend some more time with her. I was blessed with a mother in law that I truly love. She has taught me a lot about life over the past 36 years that I have known her and also how to handle her stubborn son!!! Be sure to tell your mom that you love her!!!

Dealers are welcome to come and see what I have as far as display pieces. My counter at the store will be for sale. It's a nice older one, it has some boo-boo's but not bad. I can't take everything with me, so there will be a lot of good prices on certain things. Some of my friends inside the store are closing out there treasures at up to 50% off. So far I have 11 others sellers out in the parking lot and I am looking forward to seeing what they bring. If you have any questions give me a call. When did this happen!!! I can't believe it. There is so much going on in my life right now, I feel like time is being stolen.... Having 2 stores has really been a challenge. I would not recommend it to anyone, especially in this economy. My store on 2nd street will be closing around the 15th of September, and I will just have the location on First street. I am working on our biggest sale of the year, our Porch and Parking Lot Sale. It will be on Saturday, August 23rd. Some of my antiquing friends come and set up tables and tents out in my parking lot on 2nd street. It is really fun and we always have a huge turnout. My friend Timi, http://www.coolchickclub.com/, will be introducing a line of car seat pads that she and her friend have designed. They are making me one with a crown on it. If you are in the area, stop by....The gift show is in Seattle, so I'll be there. My garage is filled with projects again, and I swear I was only going to buy ready-to-go -on-the-floor stuff, but no.....My husband just traded in my Denali for a Denali pick-up truck. It's awesome. I feel like a bad-girl in it.....I'll will have to have a canopy put on it for hauling stuff. I did take some pictures of my house, but I am not a good photographer so some of the shots are too far away. The new picture on the blog shows my favorite thing in my house. I found the little cherub (was a lamp at one time) statue from one of my pickers and he had it in a free box. I couldn't believe it. It found a home on my mantel and I dressed her in some old pearls, gave her some friends to stand with and love her every day....Ok. that's it for today..let me know when it's September..

Do the Research First!!!

For all you shop owners out there... before you put a price on a rare, vintage book, do the research first!!! Here's the story of my "bad sale of the day," yesterday. A customer brought up an old hard cover book, (many of which I just use for display, so I sell them very cheap.) Anyway, she brings the book up and I look at it up close for the first time. I think it's been around for a couple months. The title is "We", author Charles Lindbergh. I say oh my, I wonder if this is worth some money and the lady says "maybe". She knew ,and I knew she knew. I couldn't all of a sudden say its not for sale so I sold it to her for a whopping $4.oo. Yes, $4.00!!! I tried to stay away from checking it on eBay, but I did it anyway, and sure enough it's the only book by Charles Lindbergh and it is very hard to come by and the current bid I saw was $250.00.. Sure it was. I will be looking over my books from now on.. I try to tell myself that I made a little profit on the book ...

We had a big weekend with Kl Ha Ya Days here in Snohomish.. It was fun to watch all the people enjoying this small town event, which included glorious weather. Next year at Kl Ha Ya Days, I am on having an antique fair included in the events. We are hoping for around 40-50 dealers.. I think it will be great.....

Success at Portland!

Well, we made it back from our shopping excursion with a trailer load, (mostly Mary's) of really, really good stuff. I even bought a couple of things for myself. We started our day on Thursday morning loaded with our coffee concoctions and low fat (not!) baked goods...Our first stop was Chehalis and Centralia. One shop in Chehalis is darling and I can't find the card I picked up. I'll mention it later. Anyway, she had some very nice things and super displays. Centralia isn't what it used to be. I managed to find a few things, but kind of slim pickins. Onward to Montecello Antique Market in Portland. This is one of our favorite places. It's not the best shopping when Expo is on, because alot of the dealers sell at expo. What's great about Montecello is the displays in the booths. There are many an idea to be stolen!!!! Then to our room, we stay at The Red Lion, which is remodeling and we had a great new tile shower that looked like a million bucks....No worries about going barefoot in this bathroom!!! And they cover the inside blanket on the bed with a sheet so that you don't touch any of the blankets. Very, very clean!.. Had a gourmet dinner at the mall, mine was Cajun rice and cabbage, Mary had pizza and Cathy had something fab from Taco Time.......Friday morning 5:00 and we start hitting the bathroom and any mirror available. Ready in no time and off for the early shopping in the parking lot. This is so fun. Dealers have stuff to sell before they get into the buildings, which opens at 11:00. The outside dealers is where I find most of my stuff. The summer show is definitely my favorite show. Now the work... loading up what we bought. Cathy is so good about helping me load...Mary had an enormous amount of stuff..... I don't think there were any metal items left after Mary blew through there. My God, she bought bird cages, metal tables, metal plant stands, pillars (wood) and do you think she bought smalls...... no, it was pretty much all big ..We got it all wedged in without damage and headed our around 3:00. I had to be back to work and we are really fast shoppers anyway and know what we are looking for. Shopping, you know is a skill that we have mastered..... I really recommend Portland any time of the year and look forward to the next show, which I think is in October...Put it on your places to go list.

Locally Kl Ha Ya Days is this weekend in Snohomish, so it should be pretty busy. I am still working on getting some things to sell from the blog. My most used word lately is....eventually.

Road Trip to Portland

Well, it's Portland Expo time. If you haven't done this show, you are missing a good one. I think there are about 1500 booths to explore. I always have such a good time with my friends. I go with my friends Mary, Dani and Cathy, (who's my good buddy since Jr. hi...) This year we are meeting up with another road trip warrior, Carol, who owns her own store in Marysville Washington call Gatherings. Carol's store is truly, fabulously gorgeous!! I'm serious. When you go in there, you can barely talk, you just want to take it all in. (I taught her everything she knows.. ha ha). Her web site is gatheringshome.com. A lot of people wonder how all of us shop owners and mall vendors get along so well when we shop together. When we go on a hunt, we usually split up and head different directions and call on the walkie talkies or cell phones for second opinions and oh my god, you have to see this, alerts! We met for lunch, which usually costs an arm and a leg, (best to bring your own). We discuss what we purchased and keep track of who's the big spender, (usually Mary). The most important part is loading the trailer. This is about 14 feet long and we never have a problem filling it. We try to load up early, while we have energy.
I will be taking pictures of our adventure and send them along to you.

The week in review

OK, since my last post, I have been very busy. I've been working with a gal named Dena here in Snohomish to try and organize an antique show on First Street . You would think that since we are the Antique Capital of the Northwest, that we would have an annual antique show, right?
Well, no and we hope to change that. Kla Ha Ya Days is coming up, July 18th, (I'm not sure that is the correct date. I'll check) . We are trying to see if we can get a least the store owners to have a side walk sale, since we may not have time this year for antiques.
Then last week I had to go have a tooth extracted because of a wicked fajita I met up with on a buying trip to Texas. (another story). Well, my dds, Steve ,convinced me that he should do an immediate, (he meant now, today, in 5 minutes) implant. OK I said, since I am numb to my waist, what the heck. He cranked it in with a wrench and covered it up and said take a couple of advil and you'll be fine. That was last Friday and I have now consumed 1 full bottle of Advil. It's getting better, but its still hard to open my mouth. I do think I have lost a couple pounds though, but not a fun diet plan. Exciting implant stories to follow in about 4 months.
Eddie is OK, doggy-rhea gone, antibiotics and $125.00 later to hear that he probably ate something rotten. Great.
I will be adding some pictures of things to sell eventually. In the mean time check out this blog.

Also, I had 2 full days off! Sunday and Monday my husband of 34 years, Vern, and I went up to our cabin on Camano Island. We worked the full 2 days to get our place back to order. We haven't gone up there as much as we use to, since I have had the stores. The work was hard, but when you get to look out on Saratoga Passage, the beautiful Olympic Mountains, boats on the water, what do I have to complain about?

I just want to let you know that lots of good things are happening here in The Antique Capital of the Northwest, Snohomish!!! Haley and Company will be opening in the first part of July. Haley is the Haley of Haley's Cottage, Mill Creek. Haley's mom, Cindy, has Haley's Cottage and it is a fab, fab, store. I think Haley will be bringing a fresh new look to town, along with her line of soy candles and great frames, and who knows what else!!! And this big news alert....... Faded Elegance (Everett) is moving to town. Faded Elegance has been a staple in the world of shabbiness for many years, in fact, that is where I started this whole thing. The original owner, Jeannie gave me the opportunity to sell in her store and the rest is history.... Snohomish Sweets and Treats opened their doors 2 weeks ago and (hush, hush) many things to come from my friend, Brigit, who also operates Bella's B&B here in town. She keeps up with kids and a husband. I'm not sure where she finds the energy, but I would like an RX of it if available!! Still working on the pictures.

A friend of mine named Timi has forced, no wait, encouraged me to give this blog thing a whirl. I am a product of the 70's and still am having a hard time figuring all this computer lingo out. I just discovered all these wonderful blogs from another friend who sells the some really great stuff at the Fremont Market in Seattle. Her blog is Luluz1953, she's a hoot and a holler. Anyway, the thing is that I love junking around and seeing all the great stuff that is out there to be got. Is that good English? I have 2 stores in Snohomish Washington, so needless to say I am always on the hunt for unique, unusual and beautiful things that can either end up in my home or one of the stores. (usually the stores.) I will try to get more pictures and possibly put some things on the site to sell, so keep checking...... I think this could be fun!
